![]() ![]() While originally classified as a children's novel, Bridge to Terabithia has established its place in the Young Adult genre. The variation of these awards shows one of the unique traits of this novel. ![]() These include, but are not nearly limited to, the Virginia Young Reader's Award, the Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Award, a Newbury Medal, and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award ("Awards by Book"). ![]() Bridge to Terabithia is one of the crowning glories of this impressive career, having won an enormous number of its' own awards. One of these organizations is the National Children's Book and Literacy Alliance ("Katherine's Biography"). Furthermore, Paterson has built her presence in the field of Young Adult past her place as a successful author through her involvement with multiple organizations that work for youth and young adult literacy. ![]() Paterson was also "named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress" in 2000. Although a full exploration of the endless number of awards this author has won would take up the majority of the length of this review, some of the most notable include two Newbery Medals for various books and the National Book award for her novel The Great Gilly Hopkins. The success of this novel only adds to the already impressive career of renowned author Katherine Paterson. ![]()
